The Diablo 4 team continues to add more endgame activities for players in both the eternal and seasonal realms in the form of the boss ladder. Each of the boss encounters in the ladder has a loot table with specific cosmetics and Unique gear; the final bosses also drop Uber Uniques, the best gear you’ll find in the game. Starting in Season 4 these items also have a chance of dropping from any other activity, but it will be a low chance: boss ladder encounters will remain the most direct method of farming for specific drops.
Ready to start collecting loot? Here are all of the end-game bosses in Diablo 4, and how to summon them:
- Grigoire, the Galvanic Saint
- Echo of Varshan
- Lord Zir
- The Beast in the Ice
- Duriel, King of Maggots
- Andariel, Maiden of Anguish
- Echo of Malphas
- Echo of Lilith
- Tormented Echoes
Grigoire, the Galvanic Saint
- Location: Hall of the Penitent in Dry Steppes.
- Level: 55 (WT3), 75 (WT4)
- Materials: Living Steel (two on WT3, five on WT4), dropped from Tortured Gifts of Living Steel in Helltides.
- Loot table
Much like Tortured Gifts of Mysteries, the Tortured Gifts of Living Steel appear as orange chest icons on the Helltide’s map. Farm Cinders from the Helltide as long as possible; the chests take a whopping 300 Aberrant Cinders to open. Once you have your steel, head to the Hall of the Penitent to summon him.

Echo of Varshan
- Location: Malignant Burrow at the Tree of Whispers in Hawezar.
- Level: 55 (WT3), 75 (WT4)
- Materials: One each of the Parts of Varshan’s Body — Trembling Hand, Blackened Femur, Gurgling Head, plus a Malignant Heart for WT4.
- Loot table
Farm the three parts of Varshan’s body from Grotesque Debtors that appear at the end of Whispers events and the Tree’s reward caches; combine them in Malignant Burrow at the Tree of Whispers to summon Varshan. On World Tier 4, you’ll also need a Malignant Heart, which only drops from the Tree of Whispers reward caches on World Tier 4. There is a way to offset this amount of items, however: your local friendly alchemist can turn one kind of body part into another one for only a few crafting materials. The non-Heart body parts can be turned into a bag that has a chance of dropping any of the three body parts, while spare Malignant Hearts can be turned directly into one of the other body parts.

Lord Zir
- Location: The Darkened Way in Fractured Peaks.
- Level: 75
- Materials: Nine Exquisite Blood, dropped from WT4 World Boss fights and Legion Events.
- Loot table
It’s worth noting that both events that drop Exquisite Blood are also Whispers events, meaning you can frequently find Grotesque Debtors for Varshan’s body parts there as well — two birds with one stone. Once you have your Exquisite Blood, you’ll want to head to The Darkened Way and, from there, further down into the Ancient’s Seat. Besides his regular loot, Zir can drop a cosmetic helm unique to this fight.

The Beast in the Ice
- Location: Glacial Fissure in Fractured Peaks.
- Level: 85
- Materials: Glacial Fissure Nightmare Sigil, crafted at the Occultist with nine Distilled Fear and 250 Sigil Powder.
- Loot table
Tip: You must craft a Glacial Fissure Nightmare Sigil to summon the Beast. To do so, collect nine Distilled Fear from Tier 30+ Nightmare Dungeons and combine them at the Occultist as you would craft normal sigils. The drop rate for Distilled Fear was increased as of patch 1.3.0 — they are guaranteed drops at the end of a Tier 30+ NMD, and every 10 Tiers after Tier 30, there’s an increasing chance for additional Distilled Fears to be rewarded. Completing Tier 90 Nightmare Dungeons and beyond will always grant 3 Distilled Fears. Unlike the short sets of tunnels you traverse to summon the other bosses, Glacial Fissure is an actual dungeon-length area complete with random elites, packs of enemies, Nightmare Dungeon boons and banes, etc. You can even teleport directly there, just like a normal Nightmare Dungeon!

Echo of Duriel, King of Maggots
- Location: Gaping Crevasse, just southwest of Gea Kul in Kehjistan
- Level: 100
- Materials: Two Mucus-Slick Eggs (dropped by WT4 Varshan) and two Shards of Agony (dropped by WT4 Grigoire).
- Loot table
The Lord of Pain did not appreciate players thwarting him in Caldeum during Act 6, and his echo wants revenge. Luckily, he didn’t bring his camera-blocking walls and super-tiny arena with him this time. Head to the Gaping Crevasse south of Gea Kul in Kehjistan to summon Duriel, and cross your fingers for a Shako!

Echo of Andariel, Maiden of Anguish
- Location: Hanged Man’s Hall, east of Tasarak in Kehjistan
- Level: 100
- Materials: Two Sandscorched Shackles (dropped by Lord Zir) and two Pincushioned Doll (dropped by The Beast in the Ice)
- Loot table
The Echo of Andariel joins the endgame boss ladder in the same spot as her brother Duriel, with the same Uber Unique drop rate. Like Duriel, she is out for revenge after we defeated her when summoned by Elias in Act 4. The Maiden of Anguish was added in patch 1.4.0 as a correlating balance to her brother Duriel in the boss ladder. Uber Andariel shares her loot table with Duriel and has the similar increased drop rate for Uber Uniques.

Echo of Malphas (Season 3)
- Location: Vault of the Loom
- Level: 100
- Materials: 10 Igneous Cores and 250 Shattered Stone.
- Loot table
The Season 3 end boss was an additional WT4 fight requiring summoning materials from the Season itself and does not appear to be in game anymore.

Echo of Lilith
- Location: The church in Nevesk
- Level: 100
- Materials: None
- Loot: Instead of a dedicated loot table, killing the Echo of Lilith rewards the achievements “Silence is Helllish” and “Final Slayer of the First,” the titles “Lilith’s” and “Doom,” and the “Reins of the Bloody Liquid Steed” item which grant you the Blood Liquid mount.
The Echo of Lilith is the D4 pinnacle fight available at launch. While there are no summoning materials required, this encounter is nothing to sneeze at. Lilith pulls out all her tricks from the Act 6 fight in Mephisto’s realm, but with a massive health pool and damage to match.

But what about Tormented Echoes?
Added in the Season 4 patch, Tormented Echoes are an extra challenging version of these endgame bosses. Triggering these fights requires both increased amounts of the normal summoning materials, as well as the new Stygian Stones. The stones are dropped from “deep within The Pit,” an interconnected network of dungeons accessible through an obelisk in Cerrigar whose challenge is incredibly similar to Diablo 3‘s greater rifts. The Tormented Echoes are brutal fights, where the ladder boss spawning is now Level 200 — more health, more power, more desire to smash you into tiny bits. The requirements for summoning these echoes will be added once finalized in Season 4.

Be aware that to fight any ladder bosses, you require all the summoning items every time, so make sure you’re ready for the fight before you go in — and hold onto any extra materials that drop, to summon them again for more chances at loot. Apparently, these massive reinforcements from the Burning Hells fully expect to be able to grind us into dust. Summon them up and prove them wrong!
