You don't have to convince us of the fact that Chicago is home to some of the best pizza in the Midwest (and the world)—but it's nice to know that Yelp agrees.
According to a new ranking released by the company, five Chicago spots actually serve the most delicious pies in the region: Pequod's Pizza atNo.3, Milly's Pizza in the Pan at No. 5, Zazas Pizzeria atNo. 12, Forno Rosso Pizzeria Napoletana atNo. 30 and George's Deep Dish atNo. 41.
What's more, Illinois and Michigan are the two most represented states on the list. We are, indeed, proud citizens.
"Often hailed as prime examples of Chicago-style pizza, the legendary pies at Pequod’s [...] aren’t traditional deep-dish," writes Yelp, explaining how the restaurant's caramelized cheese crust is prepared by pressing a layer of mozzarella between the dough in a specially designed pan. The food is then baked until dark and bubbly.
As for Milly's Pizza in the Pan, most Yelpersseem to call out the fresh ingredients, on-site quality control processes and overall deliciousness of the pies on offer.
In case you were wondering, Loui's Pizza in Hazel Park, Michigan topped Yelp's ranking, thanks to the superb Detroit-style pies it has been slinging out for almost 50 years. Future in Indianapolis took the No. 2 spot.
From deep dishto more traditional pizzas, Chicago clearly reigns supreme when it comes to all sorts of pies.
